The Complete Guide to Using Vox for Email
Vox isn't an email client — it's an email operator. It works with your existing email app (Mail.app, Outlook, Thunderbird) and handles reading, writing, and sending without you ever opening the app yourself. Here's a complete guide to email with Vox.
Reading emails
“Computer, check my emails.”
You have 8 unread emails. The most important ones: Sarah sent the Q3 review document at 2:15 PM, DevOps flagged a deployment issue at 1:45 PM, and HR sent an open enrollment reminder.
Vox uses read_emails to access your inbox and summarizes what it finds. You can dig deeper into any specific message:
“Computer, read me the full email from DevOps.”
This calls get_email_body to retrieve the complete message content, which Vox reads aloud via text-to-speech.
Sending emails
“Computer, send an email to David saying the project is on track for Friday delivery.”
Vox matches your email tone. After a few interactions, it learns whether you write formally or casually, whether you use greetings, and how you sign off.
Replying and forwarding
“Computer, reply to Sarah's email and say the numbers look good, I'll present them Thursday.”
“Computer, forward the DevOps alert to the engineering team with a note saying please investigate.”
Attachments
“Computer, email the budget spreadsheet to finance@company.com.”
Smart recipient resolution
You don't need to know email addresses. Vox resolves names through your contacts:
Send the report to the marketing team.
I found 4 marketing team contacts: Alice, Bob, Carol, and Dave. Sending to all four. Done.
Persistent preferences
Set rules once, and Vox remembers them forever:
“Computer, always CC my manager when I send emails to external contacts.”
“Computer, use my professional signature on all work emails.”
“Computer, add a disclaimer to any email that includes financial data.”
Email preferences are stored in Vox's persistent memory via save_user_info. They apply to every future email until you change them.
Email with Vox is email without email. No client to open, no messages to scroll through, no compose windows to fill out. Just say what you need and it's done.
