Find and Clean Duplicate Files with AI

·4 min read

Your computer has copies of copies. report-final.pdf, report-final-v2.pdf, report-final-ACTUAL.pdf. And somewhere in your Downloads folder, three identical copies of that installer you kept re-downloading. Cleaning up manually means opening each file and comparing. Vox does it by voice.

Find and remove duplicates

Computer, find all duplicate files in my Documents folder and show me what you found before deleting anything.

~/Downloads/report-final (1).pdf
Group 2 (2 copies, 12 MB each):
~/Documents/presentation.pptx
~/Desktop/presentation-backup.pptx
Total: 34 duplicates using 186 MB of space

Safe deletion with confirmation

Vox shows you what it found and waits for your approval before deleting anything:

Computer, keep the newest copy of each and delete the rest.

Note

Vox always asks before destructive actions. It shows you the full list of files it plans to delete and waits for your confirmation. Nothing is removed without your say-so.

Smart matching beyond filenames

Vox doesn't just compare filenames — that would miss files with different names but identical content. It reads file contents and compares at a deeper level, catching duplicates that simple name-matching tools would miss.

Computer, check if any files in my Desktop are duplicates of files already in my Documents.

Cross-folder duplicate detection works just as well. Clean up your entire file system, one command at a time.
